HighRoads Board of Advisors

Brent Bannerman

Brent is the founder of HighRoads. Brent pioneered an industry when he founded HighRoads in October 1999. Since that time, he has spearheaded the company into its market leadership position, played a central role in HighRoads' venture capital funding, signed a number of blue-chip F500 Customers, and developed strategic relationships with Ingenix, Hewitt and Thomson Healthcare and spearheaded the acquisition of MHS Advisors.

Prior to founding HighRoads, Brent directed Zurich's Accident and Health product lines in the Northeastern United States , and served in a variety of front-line positions in sales, marketing and e-business strategy development. Brent holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education degree from McGill University.

Fred Foulkes

Professor Fred K. Foulkes received the A.B. degree from Princeton University and the M.B.A. and D.B.A. degrees from Harvard Business School. A Professor of Organizational Behavior and the Director of the Human Resources Policy Institute for Boston University School of Management, he teaches courses in human resource management and organizational behavior.

Prior to joining Boston University, Professor Foulkes was a member of the faculty at Harvard Business School. Prior to entering teaching, he was employed by Chrysler Corporation, the New York Telephone Company and Chemical Bank. His principal publications include Creating More Meaningful Work, Personnel Policies in Large Nonunion Companies and Executive Compensation: A Strategic Guide for the 1990's.

Professor Foulkes is a recipient of the Employment Management Association Award and the Fellow Award, the National Academy of Human Resources award of distinction for outstanding achievement in the human resource profession. Professor Foulkes serves as a director of Panera Bread and the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation. He is also a member of the advisory board of Kronos Workforce Institute. He is a senior advisor to the Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), a SHRM chapter, leader of its Senior HR Forum, and chair of the Boston Personnel Dinner Group. He is also a Research Fellow of the Employee Benefit Research Institute, Washington, D.C.

Robert Toohey

As senior vice president for customer care and services, Bob Toohey is responsible for developing and implementing global HR policies, strategies, programs, and tools that keep the workforce engaged, focused, energized and motivated to achieve the business unit's strategic objectives. These include employee development, training, staffing, compensation and benefits, employee relations, diversity, and Human Resources compliance. He also oversees the company's Community Investment program and the employee and executive communications areas.

Toohey has been with the company for 20 years. From 2001 to 2006, he served as vice president of Total Rewards for Verizon Communications Inc., responsible for the establishment of corporate long-range objectives, policy and governance, and design, implementation, and financial stewardship of the Verizon Total Rewards Program, including base compensation, incentive plans, pension, and executive compensation and benefits.

He began his career at GTE, where he held various roles in both finance and human resources compensation and benefits. As director of executive compensation, he served on the GTE/Bell Atlantic merger integration team. Prior to that position, he was vice president for compensation, benefits, and HR technology at Genuity, where he led the human resources team on the company's initial public offering.

Toohey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Northeastern University. He is a member of the American Benefits Council Board of Directors and has served as chairman of the Retirement & Investment Policy Committee. He is also on the Board of Atlantic Health and the Board of Advisors of HighRoads Inc.

Gary Lawson

Gary Lawson is the Head of Global Compensation & HRIT for Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals. In this capacity, Gary is responsible for the design, development and implementation of compensation programs on a global basis. In addition, he is responsible for the development, communication and implementation of a global HRIT strategy to support the company's globalization initiative.

Gary was most recently Vice President and a member of the North American Compensation Practice Leadership Group for Watson Wyatt Worldwide. Gary previously served a term on The Wyatt Company Board of Directors and was the Chairman for the Compensation Practice of The Wyatt Company.

Previously, Gary served as Vice President of Corporate Compensation for The Citizens and Southern Corporation (C&S), which is now a part of Bank of America, as well as Director of Compensation and Benefits for National Data Corporation. He gained prior consulting experience directing the Compensation and Benefits Consulting Services for one of the major accounting firms in their Southeast region. He also held several HR management positions with GTE.

Gary has served as the Chairman of the Board for the Atlanta chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and as a member of the National Compensation and Benefits Committee for SHRM. In addition, he served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Junior Achievement and Atlanta Center for the Visually Impaired.

Gary has a Bachelor of Science and a MBA degree from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Science from Georgia State University. He has also completed all course work requirements for a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations at Georgia State University.
