Network Security Engineer
Reporting to Manager Information Security Technologies - Ottawa, Ontario Canada
Responsibilities
- The individual will be expected to implement information security interfaces in complex computing systems, applications and network software/hardware.
- The candidate will be expected to evaluate internet-wide security threats in relation to local systems.
- The candidate is expected to communicate potential information security exploits.
- The candidate will participate in the evaluation of proposed systems and applications to determine information security or data integrity implications.
- The candidate will develop and maintain distributed automated information technology security monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
- The candidate will develop and maintain a variety of information technology network security control systems such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, wireless networks, virtual private networks, and network account access.
- The individual will analyze log files, and report breaches including potential solutions.
- The candidate will monitor network traffic activity company wide.
- The candidate will assist colleagues and staff company wide in troubleshooting and resolving network and network security issues.
- The candidate may be asked to perform related duties as assigned.
General Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience of related experience in network security.
- The candidate must possess knowledge of various complex programming languages; server operating systems; networking principles, design and architecture; information technologies system and network security software and hardware.
- The candidate must have experience with remote monitoring of information technology security systems.
- Experience in computer languages such as Perl, PHP, Java and designing and implementing networks and relates information technologies security devices.
- The candidate posses the ability to analyze, diagnose, and correct problems related to information technologies security systems.
- The candidate will have the ability to research and assist in the design and implementation of information and network security solutions.
- The individual will have the ability to develop applications for information security reporting purposes.
- The candidate has the ability to troubleshoot company wide information technology system and network security issues.
- The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
- The flexibility to perform after hour duties; support, on-call rotation.
Technical Qualifications
- The candidate must posses knowledge of Firewall/Nokia & Checkpoint technologies, Load Balancer technologies, Weblogic, Linux, Windows, Oracle.
- The candidate should possess network certifications such as Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert - CCIE preferred.

- Must have excellent communications skills (oral, written and presentation), relationship management skills and negotiating skills.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects with aggressive timelines, and be able to work on quickly changing priorities.
- Must be able to communicate easily with persons at all levels, including senior management.
- Should have strong organizational and analytical skills as well as practical problem-solving and decision-skills.
Education
- College degree in Computer Science and/or an industry recognized networking certification.
- A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a college degree in Computer Science and/or an industry recognized networking certification, with experience in computer languages such as Perl, PHP, Java, and designing and implementing networks and relates information technologies security.
