April 15, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and Northwestern University School of Law will co-host a public workshop on April 15, 2008 on how businesses can secure the personal information of consumers and employees.

The workshop, "Protecting Personal Information: Best Practices for Business," will feature business people, attorneys, government officials, privacy officers, and other experts who will provide practical guidance for businesses of all sizes on data security, best practices for developing an appropriate data security program, and how to respond to security problems, including data breaches. There's no cost to attend.

Come hear HighRoads' Vikki Kolbe, SVP of Services, discuss How to Build a Culture of Security. This panel is intended to provide practical guidance and lessons learned from persons engaged in security compliance, and will address basic questions such as:

  • What challenges have you faced in taking and maintaining an inventory of your personal information and equipment?
  • How have you gone about determining whether you had adequate network and physical security?
  • What data security challenges have you faced in hiring service providers and technical staff?
  • How have you worked with outside IT professionals to address security issues
